Meet our Board
Dr. Robert Shiroff
Dr. Robert Shiroff has been a supporter, advocate and active participant since the beginning of Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada’s history. In the early development of the organization, he attended town hall meetings that were critical to the establishment of VMSN. Initially a provider physician for internal medicine, he now runs a weekly cardiology clinic. In addition to patient care, he reads all of the clinic’s EKGs and Echocardiograms, and he is an invaluable member of several VMSN pillar committees. Dr. Shiroff enjoys the camaraderie of working with his fellow volunteers, while being able to treat patients who otherwise would go without the medical care they so desperately need.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, the board-certified cardiologist left the Keystone State for the Silver State on a cold, sleety afternoon in January 1978 to join Cardiovascular Consultants of Nevada. “When the plane touched down in Las Vegas, the sun was shining and it was 70 degrees,” recalls Dr. Shiroff, “I was in heaven.” He’s felt the same way ever since. Together, Dr. Shiroff and Dr. Michael Sawaya built CCN into one of the largest cardiology practices on the West Coast.
When he retired in 2006 after 28 years in practice, he considered his biggest accomplishment to be “delivering high quality care and the relationships I developed with my patients.” He’s doing the same thing as a volunteer physician at Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada. At the clinic, Dr. Shiroff cares for the neediest members of our community. “It’s my pleasure to be able give something back to the community that’s been so great to me,” he says. In October, Dr. Shiroff became the newest member of VMSN’s Board of Directors, generously donating even more of his time and bringing to bear his wealth of medical and management expertise to our mission.
