Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada (VMSN) is addressing critical community needs through effective treatment and education, ensuring comprehensive care for underserved populations. By providing individualized, culturally, and linguistically appropriate care, VMSN meets patients where they are, respecting and addressing diverse backgrounds and needs. We offer unparalleled access to care, enabling patients to see providers, receive medications, undergo lab tests, and consult with specialists at no cost. This removes financial barriers and ensures that necessary medical services are accessible to all.
VMSN collaborates with social services to overcome social determinants of health, addressing issues such as housing, transportation, and food security that impact health outcomes. Additionally, by working with pharmacies to access medications through Patient Assistance Programs (PAP), we ensure that even when medications are not available directly, patients can still obtain them at no cost.
The inclusion of a diabetes educator and structured diabetes program, with follow-ups every three months, helps patients manage their condition effectively. Ensuring patients attend appointments and diabetes classes twice a month reinforces ongoing education and support. Collaborations with community organizations, like the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) and Dignity Health, further enhance the availability of classes and resources, creating a robust support network for continuous learning and empowerment. Through these multifaceted efforts, VMSN significantly improves health outcomes and quality of life in the community.
