On Martin Luther King Blvd
Our biggest challenge and project now, is to get the downtown clinic up and running as soon as possible. We have doctors, nurses, pharmacists, i.e. the staff, diagnostic test, and medications to help the downtown community. We have purchased the land we need to put up the building up. It is 1.34 acres in an ideal location to serve the area of greatest need in Southern Nevada. This clinic will be approximately 12,000 square feet. It will allow VMSN to provide the expanded services of dental, mental health and vision which are so desperately needed in our community. The cost of the Downtown Clinic is estimated by our architect, Curt Carlson and his team at Swisher Hall, to be 2.8 million dollars. We hope to raise this in both money and service in kind. If you can help in any way please contact us.
Know that exciting changes are occurring in Nevada and if you are not already part of these changes, I invite you to be a part of them. Join us at Paradise Park or the new downtown clinic on Martin Luther King Blvd. As Martin Luther King said, “We cannot walk alone. And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead. We cannot turn back…. Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends. And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.”
Our task is open ended. It can never be finished. But let us be the generation of Nevadans that began the work in a conscious effort to answer the challenge of health care, dental care and mental health care for the uninsured in our community.
I close with a quote by Robert F. Kennedy that my beloved husband placed in his High School Yearbook: “Some people see things as they are and say why? I dream things that never were and say why not? “ Thank you for being with us tonight. Thank you for being part of a growing community of individuals who intend to make our community a better place for all.
Thank you and bless you
